The intricate relationship between norms and deviance

Just as I was telling my dear friend about my perception of blogging and little things that had happened, the concept of norms and deviance that I have learnt in sociology came to my mind. As people define what the norm is, the ones that fall out of this boundary becomes the deviant. The existence of deviant then acts to further reinforce the boundary and definition of a norm...

Similiar to our usual/daily experiences, it is after we see what we think is "wrong" that our individual perception of "right" is formed or fortified. Sounds like a chicken and egg story..Had this incident not happened, I would not have started defining what a blog is..

It sets your mind thinking...

Revolution?

From a personal handwritten diary to an online diary..
Has its function changed over time?
From something that we do to remember the little moments and episodes in our life and to express our thoughts to perhaps a little announcement board to your friends, to people you do not know etc.
The function of a diary has evolved perhaps..
Or the function means differently to people as time and experiences changes..
For the enjoyment and entertainment of the readers or the purpose of a relive of memories and expression of sentiments for the author?
Which has a greater significance..what is the primary objective..
Achieving both aims..good perhaps..
But doing extra to humour the crowd..most probably not..
Perhaps..
A blog still means a little private corner for me..
A corner where i know i can speak freely to myself..a monologue..yes..
It clears your mind..empty the little thoughts that have been floating around..dying to be released from the entrapment of the complex brain mechanism..
Boring?..highly possible..
But yes..That is what it means to me..

A website that yaning gave me..Is the following a reflection of a victor?Haha..while it may not be true, it is comforting and inspiring to see this.

Foot by foot, we create our own paths,
Holding the future in our palms.
"Nothing is impossible"

Situation as it is

Six of Wands

Briefly: You are about to be recognised or honoured in some way for your talents and achievements.

In Detail:This is a victory card, so if you draw this in your reading you are about to be recognised or honoured in some way for your talents and achievements. People will look to your for inspiration and possibly leadership. You may also be considering doing some travelling or certainly exploring further options as they arise, rather than let them slip through your fingers. You could be given the directorship of a company or other exciting challenge to meet. You will be compensated for your talents in such a way that there is now no going back to your old defeatist ways.

Course of action to be taken

King of Cups

Briefly: A proposal or proposition.

In Detail:This card shows a man dressed in armour. He is holding a cup, as if offering it to someone on front of him. In the background is a blue sky, a river and some mountains and lush green trees and grass. It appears to be a Spring day. The man is clean shaven and good looking. He wears his uniform proudly. If this is you, then you may be about to propose to the object of your affection. If this is someone you know, then you may be on the receiving end of a proposal or proposition from this man. He is affectionate and caring and offers his pledge with sincerity and love. There could also be a new job offer and this may also involve a place at a distance.

New situation that will evolve

The Star

Briefly: You are being guided in the right direction. You are also about to have much abundance enter your life through many and varied ways. If you have been looking for a certain job, more than likely you will achieve it and this will reflect what is going on inside you, which is finding your true niche in life.

In Detail:This is the card that tells you that you are being guided in the right direction. The picture displays a naked woman kneeling down beside a river with two jugs in her hand. She is pouring the water from the jugs into the stream. In the background is a large star, almost directly above her head and seven other stars around it. There are birds, flowers, trees, shrubbery and green grass around her. She appears tranquil and at peace in her natural surroundings. If this is yourself, you are intuitively heading towards the direction of where you should be on your own personal path in life. You are also about to have much abundance enter your life through many and varied ways. If you have been looking for a certain job, more than likely you will achieve it and this will reflect what is going on inside you, which is finding your true niche in life. You are also able to express yourself more truthfully without hindrances from your past or your upbringing. Your intuition is extremely heightened at this time and can bring on flashes of insight to guide you through the many decisions you are going to be facing. Trust in your future and show great faith against the odds and you will succeed. Something to do with the country, or near a river or ocean may figure strongly in an event which will occur within about one month.

Who we are..

How we are being perceived by others may not be a true reflection of who we really are..One individual's perception of us might not be accurate but a general perception may be telling. It may not be our intentions to portray ourselves in that manner but that is the message that we have transmitted across unintentionally..Or perhaps, that is who we really are..An unpretentious side of us that brings out the character that hides beneath the conscious mind to act and behave.

Knowing ourselves..through an external lens..

How much do we know about ourselves? A question that stumbles me everytime I ask myself.
An onlooker might get a clearer view of ourselves at times..In times where we resent the certain traits we possess..where we are blinded by the character we believed we are..or fight to become..

Acceptance before a better man..

Hard to chew and swallow..
Bitter and distasteful..
Overwhelming and stifling..
....
Breaths of new fresh air..
Gradual relief of the lungs..
Liberation from the struggle..
An experience to embrace..

King Kong

Somehow, King Kong spurred me to relook at the realities and hypocracies of the world.."Beauty killed the beast" was the ending line said by the filmmaker,Carl Denham. As ironical as it is, this comment was made by the culprit who triggered the whole string of unfortunate events to achieve his personal greatness that he believed to await him at Skull Island. To Carl, King Kong was killed as a result of his love and affection for Ann. However, what killed it were the ambitions and greed of man. How can we ever see our flaws if we are always looking at things from a single perspective? Perhaps everyone of us has a blind spot, or probably, there are things which we choose not to see as we move forward in life.

It is saddening to see King Kong slowly slipped, dived down from the tip of the building and lie motionlessly on the hard and cold ground, surrounded by spectators and photographers who eagerly stepped on top of the body to take the last pictures of the creature that "terrorised" the city. Cold and unreflective humans are. Blinded by the very things we desire and pursue for.

Who is the intruder when the "intruder" is being held as a captive from a land where it knows it as home?

Easy as it is to push the blame unto others, recognising our faults and mistakes would have taken a lot more courage and effort for it implies the step to face up to the consequences.
